(Seguin) — Guadalupe County is applauding the smooth opening and operation of its two county collection stations.
Loads of trash and recyclables are now being accepted at the Kingsbury Collection Station and Marion Collection Station.
The stations are being operated four times a week by Republic Services.
Guadalupe County Judge Kyle Kutscher says he’s pleased to see that the service has returned for county residents. He says the county has been without the sites since the end of July when the company could not compromise on a deal with the county.
Kutscher says because it’s been a while since the stations have been opened, the county was not sure how the initial operation would run. Luckily however, Kutscher says things seem to be operating pretty smooth.
“They are up and running. We’ve got the two sites. The first day was Nov. 6 and it seems as though everything is going well. We haven’t had any concerns, complaints. We’ve gotten some feedback from the constables. We didn’t know how heavy the traffic was going to be starting out. We didn’t want there to be traffic problems. We got some of the constables to go out on the weekends, on the Saturdays. They said it really was not as busy as expected but had good traffic flow. There weren’t really backups so it seems like everything is working well,” said Kutscher.
In addition to household trash, items can also be dropped off for recycling.
Republic will recycle “tires, single stream items (cardboard, newspaper, aluminum, and plastic), woody waste and large metal items/appliances that do not contain CFC’s. Glass will not be recycled but can be put into the household trash.”The service is only available to Guadalupe County residents only. Proof of residency will “be verified using a current utility bill (water, electric, or telephone) showing a physical address located within the corporate limits of the county, current Texas driver’s license , and/or current vehicle registration sticker showing proof of county residency.”
Citizen fees begin at $2 for a 30 gallon trash. Other rates include 55 gallon trash drums $3.50; loose trash/bundled brush $9 per cubic yard; bulky materials $12; residential roofing materials $35 per cubic yard; residential scrap metal $10; and tires from $5.50 to $27.25. Only cash will be accepted at each collection site.
The Marion and Kingsbury Collection Stations will be open at 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
The Kingsbury Collection Station is located at the corner of FM 2438 and County Road 204 (Old Seguin-Luling Road) while the Marion site is located at the corner of Vernell Street and State Highway 78 on the east side of Marion.
