Seguin, TX, USA / Seguin Today

Buck Fever kicks off its 34th annual event

(Seguin) — It’s all about the horns and the great outdoors these next two days. The annual Buck Fever event returns today to the Seguin Events Complex and Coliseum.

Buck Fever President Rodney Bargfrede says this year, the group continues to celebrate the legacy behind the fundraiser, its promotion of the great outdoors and the youth of Guadalupe County.

“We host it to support the youth of Guadalupe County. This is going to be our 34th year and it all started with just a few people 34 years ago and it’s grown quite a bit. All of our profits go to outdoor education, the Seguin Outdoor Learning Center, Buck Fever scholarships, a lot of Guadalupe County youth related programs and our commitment to promote the outdoors. It’s all about being able to get the youth out in the outdoors,” said Bargfrede.
Bargfrede says the youth will again be the focus of many of tonight’s events and will have the chance to take home some great prizes.

“On Wednesday, it’s going to be centered around the youth. All students are going to get in free. We are going to have a special scavenger hunt with the youth at a chance to win great prizes. We’ll also have Gator Country (at 7 p.m.). He always puts on a really great show. For the youth, there will be archery, sensory safari, exotic petting zoo, rock climbing wall, pellet gun shoot, fish tank and a lot more things,” said Bargfrede.

Bargfrede says adults will also get the chance to win some great prizes with the annual raffles, silent auction and also by participating in this year’s Whitetail Horns Contest.

“We’ll also have our silent auction, bucket raffle and our 30 gun raffle which is how we raise the money for the organizations that we support. We will entries for the White Tail Horns contest from 7 to 11 a.m. and there’s 14 categories on that. We will be placing first through third. We will also have one exotic category and there will be lots of vendors and activities for everybody,” said Bargfrede.

Thursday will also include another night full of events. Bargfrede says a handful of food trucks will also be on hand to help families sit down for dinner.
“Thursday, we will be awarding all the winners for the horns contest and that’s when we will be doing all the drawings for the gun raffle, silent auction and bucket raffle. We’ll also have on both nights, we’ll have three food trucks for meal options which will be Cajun on the Geaux, Grouchy Mama’s and Trini and Momo’s Casita,” said Bargfrede.

Bargfrede says he encourages everyone to come out tonight or both nights. He says you don’t have to be a hunter or an outdoorsmen to enjoy the event.

“It’s always a fun time. For one thing, the horns contest, you get to see all the animals harvested the previous year and you get to hear a lot of hunting stories and meet with friends that all have like interest but then again, there’s plenty for everybody to do. We have from children, men and women, there’s plenty for everybody to do. It’s just a fun family event and that’s what we always kind of center around is family,” said Bargfrede.
Tickets for this year’s 30 gun raffle are $10 each or six for $50.

Buck Fever is scheduled today and Thursday from 5:30 to 10 p.m.

Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for students. There is no cost today (Wednesday) for children who show their student ID. There is no cost for children under the age of six.
