(Seguin) — Plans are in place for what has been described as one of the largest fundraising events in Guadalupe County. The Wade Busby Memorial Casino Night Fundraiser runs from 5 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Columbus Club Hall of Seguin, formerly known as the KC Hall.
Mark Cerda, one of the founders for the fundraising event, says people who are interested need to contact him this Friday in order to secure a ticket as they too are known to sell out before doors open.
“So there is no tickets available at the door. We do have a few tickets left that you can acquire by calling me at 830-305-3861 or you can come down to the K.C. Hall. We will be there all day until 6 o’clock or 7 o’clock (Friday) and pick up the tickets that way but Saturday during the event, we will not sell tickets at the door,” said Cerda.
Cerda says the memorial is organized as a way to remember his best friend, Wade, who if alive today would also be doing his part to support kids in agriculture.
“The money that we raise at this one night event goes to support youth in agriculture. We sponsor where we will help kids at their local stock shows, at Guadalupe County, Bexar County, Wilson County, La Vernia, Comal County. We’ve even gone down to George West and Luling and then we go to the San Antonio Stock Show and try to support kids there also and so we are able — in the 15 years that we’ve doing this, we’ve been able to support over 6,200 kids with $1.5 million in funds. It’s absolutely phenomenal. In our first event, we raised $11,000. Last year, it was $240,000. It seems to continue to grow. People see what we are doing with the money that we are raising and they want to be part of it. They want to support and we are there to support kids involved in agriculture and if Wade was still alive today, we’d still be sitting down there doing the same thing,” said Cerda.
The event includes a catered Rib eye meal cooked on site by Next Door Catering plus live and silent auctions and a gun raffle. Cerda says multiple casino games will be on site giving everyone the chance to go home with great prizes.
Tickets are $75 each and includes the dinner, casino chips and drink tickets. Dinner will be served from 5:30 to 7 p.m. followed by casino games from 7 to 10 p.m. Doors open at 5 p.m. Saturday.
Tickets can be purchased by contacting Cerda at 830-305-3861 or Darlene Busby at 210-827-1832. Monetary donations can also be given year-round and mailed to the Wade Busby Memorial at P.O. Box 736 Marion, Texas 78124.
