(Seguin) — Guadalupe County residents will continue to have free access to the Seguin Public Library — at least for another year. The Seguin City Council on Tuesday approved an inter local agreement between the city and the county that will again provide county residents free access to the library in exchange for funds from Guadalupe County.
Library Services Director Jackie Gross says they are pleased to again be able to partner up with the county to provide their services for free to residents who live outside the city of Seguin.
“This is the annual inter-local agreement with the county for library services to residents that reside in the county but outside city limits. It’s free services. I know there was some discussion earlier in the budget year that they were going to reduce our funding and I’m pleased to say they chose not to this year and so are the Marion and Schertz libraries — they are all so very happy. Our portion for FY 2020 is $173,742 which is about 13.5 percent of our annual FY 2020 budget,” said Gross.
Gross says they understand that this could be the last year that the community libraries in Seguin, Marion and Schertz receive funding from the county. County officials have told the libraries that funding could be cut or possibly eliminated in the budget for fiscal year 2021.
