(Seguin) — The city of Seguin is again inviting you to go fly a kite. The Seguin Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting its second Kid’s Kite Day at Park West. The free event is scheduled for this Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m.
Jennifer Sourdellia, the public information officer for the city of Seguin, says the city is hoping that families will come out and take advantage of another free and fun event.
“The first time we did it was this past spring and it was a huge success. We had a lot of families come out with their kids to fly kites and it was a whole lot of fun so we decided to do it again because it was just very popular. It’s just going to be a couple of hours on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Park West and people can come out with their children and they can fly kites, enjoy the food that we are going to have out there and of course, enjoy the activities from the vendor booths as. It’s going to be a lot of fun. Parks and Rec is also going to host a 50 yard dash kite flying competition so we hope that people will take part in that again and we encourage the children to bring their own kites to this event. That would be great,” said Sourdellia.
Meanwhile, the park’s department says it can still use a few local businesses or organizations willing to come out and lend a hand.
Sourdellia says food trucks, children’s activities plus vendors are still needed for this weekend’s event.
“So far, they said they only had a couple of food trucks and just a few sponsor booths there so they are still looking for sponsors to host booths. The sponsorship is free. All we require is that the sponsors have a family friendly activity that’s free to participants to do at their booth and the sponsors also need to provide all the items for their booth like a canopy, a table things like that or giveaways or the games that they are going to play,” said Sourdellia.
Sourdellia says several giveaways plus a chance to win an unlimited wristband to ZDT’s Amusement Park are among the prizes that will be available.
Those wishing to be a vendor are asked to contact the Seguin Parks and Recreation Office at 401-2480. They may also sign-up on Friday by stopping by the parks office located in Max Starcke Park at 600 River Drive.
