(Seguin) — Get ready to not only celebrate the nation’s independence but also a national championship.
Seguin Mayor Don Keil says he’s pleased to announce the TLU National Champion Softball Team as this year’s parade marshal for the annual Biggest Small-Town Fourth of July Parade in Texas.
Keil says when selecting a parade marshal for any of the parades, he likes to choose a person or group who has brought notoriety to the city.
“TLU, the Lady Bulldogs — I tell you — TLU continues to be one of our great community assets with getting our name out all over the nation with their great performances on their athletic field. They are doing such a great job and I’m so proud of the girls and the softball team and I know they are all excited about coming back and riding on the big fire truck in the parade and being a part of the who and what here in Seguin,” said Keil.
Keil says by clinching the Division III Softball Championship for the first time in the school’s history, the TLU Bulldogs have no doubt given the city tons of positive, national exposure.
“It’s just a great asset to know that these girls put our name out all over the nation in what they did and what they achieved and we just watch to show that we are grateful for that,” said Keil.
The announcement of this year’s parade marshal officially begins the countdown for the city’s schedule of its Fourth of July festivities. Of course, the city’s schedule began on Sunday night with this year’s Patriotic Concert.
The schedule of events will resume on Wednesday with the Fireworks Fiesta beginning at 9:30 p.m. at Max Starcke Park followed by the Flag Raising Ceremony at 9 a.m. Thursday in Central Park and the Biggest Small-Town Fourth of July Parade in Texas, on the Fourth of July, at 10 a.m. Thursday.
The parade will head south on Austin Street, ending at the Seguin Coliseum. The parade route will begin at the intersection of Austin and College Streets.
