Ray “Preacher” Merz, 76, returned to his heavenly home on June 4, 2019 after a valiant battle with a long illness.
Ray was born to the late Egon and Lillie Harbort Merz, in McQueeney, TX on May 31, 1943. He pastored his first sermon at the age of 18 and continued his calling in the ministry for the remainder of his life. Ray was also the Owner/Broker for Texas Proud Real Estate and was also a former pastor at McQueeney Baptist Church and Kingsbury Baptist Church.
Ray is survived by his wife, Carolyn; his sons Ryan, daughter-in-law Maggie; Jason, and daughter-in-law Lindsey; and Jeremy, daughter-in-law Ellen; his grandchildren Dylan Merz, Hayden Merz, Jaslyn Merz, Hunter Merz, Ella Merz, Luke Merz, Kathryn and spouse Cliff Jones, Caroline McClellan, Courtney McClellan; his twin brother, Roy Merz, and other extended family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Egon and Lillie Merz; his sister, Mary Merz; and his brothers, Delbert and Virgil Merz.
Visitation will be at Sunset Memorial Oaks Chapel from 5-9 PM on Tuesday, June 11 in New Braunfels. Funeral service will be at 10 AM on Wednesday June 12 with burial to follow at the Hill Country Memorial Gardens.
