NEF's Duck Fest 2019 set for this Saturday

(Seguin) — The Navarro Education Foundation is putting the finishing touches on what it hopes will be a quacktastic weekend. The NEF will host its annual Duck Fest and Rubber Duck Race this Saturday at Walnut Springs Park in downtown Seguin.

NEF President Shawn Martinez says families are invited to stop by and cheer on their rubber duck as it crosses the finish line. She says just over three dozen winners will go home with a great prize.

“We take these 2,000 rubber ducks and we dump them in the water and watch them race down and basically, about our first 30 finishers that come across the line first will receive prizes. We have some really great prizes this year. One of our top prizes is an overnight trip with a guided fishing trip on Saturday. That’s our top prize and then we have many other prizes like $250 gift cards, $50 gift cards, lots of good prizes that will be awarded to those first 30 rubber ducks that cross the finish line. Adoptions can be taken place up until the race time so basically up until 12:30. About 12:15 p.m., we cut off the sales for the ducks and those duck adoptions are $5 each. So each $5 gets you a duck in the race and you can purchase as many rubber ducks as you want,” said Martinez.

In addition to the ducks, Martinez says there will be plenty of other fun ways to raise some money.

“We have kids games. The Navarro Jazz Band will be there performing. Kono Ice is going to be there serving up cold, delicious desserts for everybody so it’s a lot of family fun, activities that we have. We have a tug-a-war that will also take place that is place. The Navarro High schoolers are competing for a trophy so that will take place at noon so it will be a lot of family fun activities. It’s free and open to anyone who wants to come down and watch about 2,000 rubber ducks race down Walnut Creek,” said Martinez.

Rubber ducks can be purchased/adopted up until 12:15 p.m. Saturday. Adoption of ducks is available on the group’s Facebook page, Navarro Education Foundation or on the school district’s website www.nisd.us under the foundation tab.

Duck Fest begins at 11 a.m. Saturday followed by the NHS Tug-of-War at noon and rubber duck race at 12:30 p.m.
