Joe R. Hernandez, of McQueeney, passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at age 71. Joe was better known as “J.R.” or “Killer.”  J.R. was born in Cuero, Texas on April 15, 1948 to the late Damacio R. Hernandez, Sr. and the late Natividad “Maria” (Sertuche) Hernandez.  Joe was a graduate of Cuero High School, class of 1967.  He began his career with Gary Aircraft as an Aircraft painter in Victoria, Texas, from 1967 to 1970.  During that time period he tested with Southwestern Bell and scored at such a high level, that a Southwestern Bell Executive went to visit him on a rainy Sunday morning and personally offered him a job.  He then began his career with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in 1970 in Seguin and retired after 32 long years of service in 2002. Survivors include his lifelong love, Rosemary Campos, his daughter Becky Hernandez Valderrama and husband Timothy, Tina Hernandez-Johnson and husband Ken, Joey Hernandez and wife Valarie, and Laurenn Hernandez; siblings: Gloria Millsap, Damacio Hernandez Jr (Margie), Dora Carrisalez (Henry), Maria De Los Santos (Refugio), Guadalupe Hernandez (Ivonne), Jessie Hernandez (Elizabeth), Theresa H. Gonzales (Chris), and Carmen H. Veliz (Tacho); seven grandchildren: Kennedy, Jaya, Jazna, Mackenzie, Jerric, Carmella, JayRyan, and numerous Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving parents and Brother Johnny Hernandez and Grandson Joey Hernandez.
