Only the top two finishers in each regional event qualify for the state meet.

The 4×400 relay team of Hernandez, Terrance Brandon, Moreno, and Dorien Shannon took fourth place (3:23.75).

Navarro had multiple athletes compete in the 4A Region-IV meet at Texas A&M-Kingsville, but no state qualifiers. Bryce Carter came closest to cracking the top two in a pair of events, finishing fourth in the boys 1600 meters (4:41.02) and 3,200 meters (10:04.99).

Comfort wrestles district baseball title from Marion
(Comfort) – Marion came up short in its quest for the District 26-3A baseball championship Friday night in a 3-0 road loss to Comfort.

The Bulldogs (15-10) dropped two of the three head-to-head meetings with Comfort and finish with a final district record of 10-2, while the Bobcats claim the 26-3A title with an 11-1 district mark.

Marion will face Johnson City in a best-of-three bi-district playoff series this Thursday and Friday in Wimberley. The Thursday game starts at 7 p.m. The teams square off at 4:00 on Friday, with a doubleheader if the series goes to a third game.

Marion’s Jerin Valadez and Cade Baumann pitched effectively enough to keep Marion close against Comfort. Valadez allowed three runs (one earned) with two strikeouts, but walked six, over 4-2/3 innings. Baumann worked 1-1/3 frames of scoreless relief.

The Bulldogs produced just three hits on the night – a single apiece by Walker Rudasaile, Jake Burris, and Cade Baumann. Comfort’s Cooper New struck out eight to earn the complete-game win.
