Janice Bales, age 88 of Seguin, Texas passed away Wednesday, August 29, 2018.

She was born in Sioux City, Iowa on November 23, 1929 to Roy and Marion Davis Henderson. She grew up on Montreal, Canada and graduated from high school there. As a young adult, she moved to San Francisco where she met Theodore “Ted” Stutrud whom she married. They soon thereafter, moved to Kettering, Ohio where they had three children, Donna, Robert “Bob” and Nancy. Her first husband, Ted, died from pancreatic cancer at the age of 36 leaving her to raise three children as a young widow. Thirteen years later, she married Robert “Bob” Bales. After her retirement from Metropolitan Life Insurance Co., they moved to The Villages, Florida where they treasured their retirement for the next twenty years. They enjoyed thirty-three years together. She always said she was lucky because she had two good husbands and three wonderful children. In addition to her family devotion, she was active in her church, serving as the President of the Church Women for eight years. She served in many other volunteer positions in Florida including quilting for Lutheran World Relief and working as a hospice volunteer. As she got older, she relocated to Seguin to live in assisted living. She is preceded in death by her parents, Roy Henderson and Marion Davis Henderson, her first husband, Ted Stutrud, her second husband, Bob Bales and her daughter, Nancy Stutrud. She is survived by her daughter, Donna Stutrud Raetzsch and husband, A. Robert Raetzsch and son, Robert “Bob” Stutrud; her grandchildren, Laura Raetzsch Unnasch and husband Adam, Andrew Theodore “Ted” Raetzsch and C. Andrew Raetzsch and one great granddaughter, Caroline Unnasch. A memorial service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church in Seguin on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 11 am. Memorials may be sent to the Alzheimers Association, P. O. Box 96011, Washington, D.C. 20090-6011 in memory of Janice Bales.
