The fair runs through Sunday at the Guadalupe County Fairgrounds. Friday’s schedule kicks off with the annual fair parade. The parade begins at 10 a.m. and will travel south on Austin Street.

Following the parade, the fair gates will open at 11 a.m. Events include Fair Market Days; a wine garden from 4 to 11 p.m.; Kids  Corral from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. and the presentation of Miss Rodeo Guadalupe County Teen and Princess at 7:30 p.m. Friday night’s dance features music by the Texas Double Shot Band from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m.

On Saturday, gates to the fairgrounds open at 9 a.m. Events throughout the day include a trade fair and expo from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; the Best Western Wear Roundup at 10 a.m.; youth activities from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.;  the Fiddler’s Contest at 12:30 p.m. followed by the Fair Queen’s contest at 5:30 p.m.; the presentation of Miss Rodeo Guadalupe County Teen & Princess at 7:30 p.m.  and the Mutton Bustin’ Contest at 7:45 p.m. Saturday night’s dance will feature music by Fast Movin’ Train from 7:30 to 12:30 p.m.

Saturday night is also “Tough Enough to Wear Pink” in which the fair association will again honor breast cancer survivors during the opening ceremonies of the PRCA Rodeo. Those who wish to be recognized are asked to call Lisa Dudley at 210-393-4505. Each survivor will receive a free ticket to the rodeo Saturday night.  Plus, the fair association will make a donation for each person who enters the rodeo arena wearing pink.

The fair association this year is also proud to host multiple daily shows of the Dan-Dan The Farmer Man Comedy Rainmaker Show. The shows will be performed Friday through Sunday. Also added as a new featured event throughout the fair is free live professional wrestling. Several matches will be held throughout the event.

On Sunday, gates open at 10 a.m. Sunday will be the final day for the county fair. The schedule includes Fair Market Days from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Grant Smith Cowboys for Christ program at 11 in the Coliseum; youth activities from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.in the Coliseum; the annual Pet Show at 1:30 p.m. in the Gazebo; Food Challenge contest at 1:15 p.m. and the release of home arts and pumpkin decorating entries from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Live music will also be provided that afternoon by Floyd Downs & the Shadows from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the dance pavilion. Gates officially close Sunday at 6 p.m.

Each day of the fair includes a large carnival and various food booths. The PRCA Rodeo also continues today and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Rodeo tickets at the grounds are $10 at the gate and $20 for rodeo. Children 10 and under are free.

Gate admission into the fairgrounds also varies each day. Friday is Student and Military Day. Students with an ID or those with a military ID get in free until 7 p.m. Otherwise, the cost is $10. There is no cost for kids 10 and under.

The cost to enter the grounds throughout the fair is $10 a person. Kids 10 and under are free.

Parking all weekend is $10 a vehicle. Proceeds again will benefit the Seguin FFA.

The annual Queen’s Contest gets underway this Saturday at 5:30 p.m. in the Seguin Coliseum. A total of 10 contestants will be vying for the crown.

Those competing for county royalty are Braylee Wise, of Samuel Clemens High School; Gabriella Reising, of Resolute Academy; Hannah Skrobarcek, of Samuel Clemens High School; Tessa Thomas, of Samuel Clemens High School; Adriana Tovar, of Lifegate Christine School; Harley Frost, of Navarro High School; Sofia Langford, of Navarro High School; Chole Law, of Seguin High School; Emily Sanchez, of Navarro High School; and Sydney Nichols, of Samuel Clemens High School.

The community is encouraged to come out and watch the stage portion of the contest this Saturday.  The event is free.

Officials say the investigation began in September and continued into October as investigators worked to identify individuals suspected of distributing methamphetamine in Guadalupe and Comal counties.

Investigators say they identified Jessie McAfee as a suspected regional distributor and obtained an arrest warrant through Comal County. He was located in New Braunfels and charged with manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance.

Following his arrest, Guadalupe County narcotics investigators executed a search warrant at his residence in the 200 block of Grove Lane. At the home, investigators seized approximately 274 grams of methamphetamine during the search.

McAfee was booked into the Comal County Jail on the outstanding warrant. Guadalupe County investigators say McAfee is expected to face additional charges.

Henry is preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 53 years, Nelda Lehmann Schrank, his parents, Henry Schrank, Sr. and Meta (Friedeck) Schrank; Brothers Milton, Nelson, Reno and Norbert Schrank; Sisters, Alice Huff, Ruby Maierhofer, Dorothy Vollmar, and Margie McCauley.

He is survived by his loving daughter Yvette Fay Bennett and devoted Son-in-law Gary Bennett; adored Granddaughter Nicole L. Bruton and husband Seth Bruton, and precious Great Granddaughter Melodie I. Bruton.

Henry is also survived by his cherished companion Frances Bush, and Furniture Warehouse family Frank McClaugherty, Geri Deines, and Matt Murphy.

Henry loved to read, work in his yard, watch football, golf, go to Retama and the Casino’s! Most of all, Henry loved his family.

Chaplain Emanuel Carpenter presided over private funeral services which were held on Thursday, October 8, 2026. Interment followed in San Geronimo Cemetery.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Guadalupe Regional Medical Center (GRMC) and Hospice of GRMC. Dr. Charles Nolan, His nurses (Sara, Cindi, Ruth and Linda); aides (Erika and Ruby), Emanuel and Carmen and his dedicated care-giver Mona Pantoja. Each showed him so much love, kindness and respect. Each one brought happiness and companionship to him.

She was a blessing to her adoptive parents Stanley and the late Bertha Naumann.  Natalie participated in the Seguin Debutant program and graduated from Seguin High School.  She later attended Baylor University and her father’s alma mater Texas State University.

Natalie loved travel and adventure. She had a varied career from driving semi-trucks to working many years at Motorola/Continental.

Natalie is survived by her father Stanley J. Naumann and wife Marilyn of Seguin, TX and Uncle Lee Tieken of Stevensville, MT and cousins and friends.  She was preceded in death by her mother Bertha (Adcock) Naumann, brother John Jesse Naumann and Aunt Betty Jean Tieken of Stevensville, MT.

A private memorial service will be held at her parent’s home with the Reverend Jeremy Roy and Pastor David Tinker officiating.  A graveside service and interment will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at San Geronimo Cemetery at 2 p.m. with Pastor David Tinker officiating.

(Seguin) — Fair gates officially open today for the 143rd Guadalupe County Fair and PRCA Rodeo.

Today also marks KWED Listener Appreciation Night at the rodeo.

KWED along with a number of partnering businesses worked hard this past week to ensure that as many people as possible were able to pick up their free rodeo tickets.

As of Thursday morning, KWED only had a limited amount of tickets still available. Free KWED Listener Appreciation Night tickets can also be picked up today at GPS and Murdoch’s Ranch & Home Supply. Individuals are encouraged to call the locations before stopping by. Again, tickets will be distributed while supplies last.

While the rodeo is free for those who were lucky enough to get tickets, individuals will still have to pay the $10 gate fee if they arrive after 6 p.m.  Otherwise, families are welcome to enter the fairgrounds for free between 5 and 6 p.m. today. Today’s schedule includes the opening of gates at 5 p.m.  Again, there will be free grounds admission until 6 p.m. Events include the annual Seguin Area Chamber of Commerce’s mixer from 5 to 7 p.m. in the dance pavilion.  Youth activities will also be held from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Seguin Coliseum. The start of the PRCA rodeo gets underway at 7:30 p.m.

The rodeo will include a mutton bustin’ and the presentation of Miss Rodeo Guadalupe County Teen & Princess.  Wrapping up events will be tonight’s free dance featuring music by Gabe Galvan from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m.

The fair gates will reopen on Friday at 11 a.m. following this year’s Guadalupe County Fair Parade.  The parade gets underway at 10 a.m. Friday in downtown Seguin.  Parking each day is $10 a vehicle except for Sunday.  Proceeds from parking will go to the Seguin FFA.  The cost to enter the fair Friday and Saturday is $10 a person.  There is no cost for kids 10 and under. Friday is also free up until 7 p.m. for all students and those with a military ID.

On Sunday, the fair is free for everyone to attend.  Carnival armbands on site will be $30 a person.  Carnival times are 6 to 11 p.m. Thursday; 1 to 11 p.m. Friday; 1 to 11 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 6 p.m. on Sunday. For pre-sale tickets or other information visit gcfair.org.

The Guadalupe County Fair Association has named the late Rodney Kelso and his wife, Sylvia Kelso, and the Kelso Family as this year’s parade marshals.

The honor comes as Rodney and Sylvia Kelso — also stock contractors — are being recognized as 2027 inductees into the Rodeo Cowboys of South Texas Hall of Fame.

Gail Damerau of the Guadalupe County Fair Association says the honor is a perfect way to recognize the Kelsos’ many years of service to the fair, rodeo and the community.

“They have just been such a part of the fair for so many years,” said Damerau. “We felt like this was really exciting and something special to be able to honor them and have the Kelso family kick off our parade.”

The Rodeo Cowboys of South Texas organization was formed to recognize South Texas rodeo individuals age 60 and older. According to the fair association, the organization honors people from a variety of areas of the rodeo industry, including rodeo directors, cowboy artisans, rodeo photographers, empty-saddle honorees, bullfighters and stock contractors.

The 2027 induction event is scheduled for March 20 at the Mesquite Hall in Adkins.

Sylvia Kelso served as president of the Guadalupe County Fair in 1991 and 1992 and was a member of the fair’s board of directors from 1980 through 2008 —  a total of 28 years.

Damerau says Sylvia also has served as a rodeo secretary for numerous organizations throughout Texas, “adding to a legacy of involvement in the rodeo industry.”

“Mrs. Kelso has worn so many hats over the years, and she has given so much of her time and service,” said Damerau. “We are so thankful for the generations of support that the Kelso family has given to the Guadalupe County Fair.”

Damerau says the family’s presence as parade marshals will give the community an opportunity to recognize the continued support of the community by all members.

“We’re super honored to have them as our parade marshals,” said Damerau. “We salute the Kelsos, and we’re just proud and thankful to have them leading off our parade.”

The Kelso family will be on hand to officially kick off this year’s Guadalupe County Fair Parade. The parade is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 9 in downtown Seguin.

(Seguin) — It looks as though it’s up to Seguin to let the rest of the world know that it is home to the Baby of the Year.

Local Baby — Isabella Grace Ramirez is currently in the running for a national “Baby of the Year” title, and her family is asking the community to help her make it to the next round.

Isabella Grace has been selected as one of the top five babies in her group for the online contest, which is being presented in partnership with Celebrity Jessica Alba along with The Honest Company, Variety and Baby2Baby. The online contest has been underway for about a month and during that time — Isabella has gone from being among 40 babies to now being one of the top five finalists.

Her mother, Adrianna Ramirez, says the family first learned about the contest from Isabella’s Aunt Tanya Thomas, who sent them the information on Facebook just a few days before the entry deadline.

Since then, the family has been following along closely. She says Isabella had been holding the No. 1 spot until Tuesday, when she began moving between first and second place.

“Besides her being the cutest baby to all of us in our family. She’s so funny. She is the happiest baby. She’s always smiling, laughing, making people smile in the store, and she’s just happy, and she is the first grandbaby and the first great grandbaby in the family,” said Adrianna.

For the Ramirez family, the contest is about more than a cute baby photo. Adrianna says it helps raise money for Baby2Baby, a nonprofit that provides children in need with essentials such as diapers, clothing and other necessities.

“It’s free to vote every day, so you don’t have to donate. But if you do donate, you’re helping babies across the country with diapers, clothes, and necessities that babies should have access to,” said Adrianna.

The ultimate prize for the winning baby is $25,000, a national advertising campaign with The Honest Company and recognition in the magazine Variety.

The deadline to vote online is this Thursday at 7 p.m. The finalists from each group will then move on into another round.

According to her family’s contest profile, “feeding time is a favorite, especially since she recently started eating purées. She also enjoys her chicken teething toy, contact naps, being held, playing with her walking crab toy and two-stepping with her dad.”

In addition to her mom Adrianna, an RN who works in the birthing center at Guadalupe Regional Medical Center, the six-month-old is loved by her father, Izaiha, an electrical apprentice who has been busy constructing facilities in the Navarro ISD.
