Navarro ISD superintendent search process continues this weekend

(Geronimo) — The Navarro ISD will be taking an additional step this weekend in its search for its next school superintendent. The Navarro ISD Board of Trustees is slated to meet for a special board meeting this Sunday afternoon to review the applications that have been submitted to the district for consideration.

Navarro School Board President Renee Rehfeld says trustees will be combing through those applications with the hope of selecting a batch of candidates that it would like to interview. The district is looking to officially fill the position that has been vacant ever since the retirement of former Superintendent Wendi Russell. Russell left the district in the spring of 2020. The district is currently under the leadership of former and longtime Superintendent Dee Carter, who is serving as interim superintendent, after recently taking over for acting-superintendent Luke Morales.

Board officials say they are optimistic that they will secure a lone finalist in April. Trustees will be meeting behind closed doors to go over the applications. The special meeting gets underway at 1 p.m. Sunday in the Navarro Intermediate School Library.
