(Seguin) — USA Track & Field is planning to hold a youth cross country event in Seguin next month. The Junior Olympic Youth Cross Country Championship meet will be held on November 12th at Max Starcke Park. The president of the Texas Southern Association of USATF was in Seguin recently to tour the proposed route at the Seguin Park.

“Max Starcke Park is one of the best cross country courses that I have seen in the United States of America Track & Field to include AAU,” Mike Wilson, who is the head of the Texas Southern Association of USATF based in San Antonio said. “So, I see big things happening here at Starcke Park.

“So far what I’ve seen, I can see half marathons being ran here. I can see 10K’s being ran here. So yeah, I have a lot of future ideas. I’m so ecstatic as to the opportunities we have here in the city of Seguin.”

Wilson and other members of a USATF group toured the route at Starcke Park this past Friday along with Seguin area youth athletics coach Ray Mendrano.

The November 12th cross country meet at the park will feature races of two, three, four and five-K’s in eight different age groups ranging in ages from seven to 18.
