Countdown begins until KWED’s Holiday Food, Toy Drive

Seguin, TX, USA / Seguin Today
Countdown begins until KWED's Holiday Food, Toy Drive

(Seguin) — Seguin Radio KWED’s favorite day of the year arrives this Friday. The radio station is again giving everyone the opportunity to take care of each other this holiday season through its annual Holiday Food and Toy Drive. For years, the food and toy drive has been hosted outside its studios at 609 E. Court St. The Holiday Food and Toy Drive ensures donations for Seguin’s food pantry The Christian Cupboard and for the Seguin Police Department’s Blue Santa Program.

Although last year, the radio station was forced to modify its collection efforts, donations and collections were still at an all-time high with thousands of dollars, food and toys collected in the short two-hour period.
Over the years, the radio station has continued to team up with community VIPs to collect your donations from the street. Loose change, dollars, checks, food, and toys will all be accepted.

Some of our committed volunteers for this year’s food and toy drive include, the Seguin Police Department, the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office, the Seguin Area Chamber of Commerce, the Seguin-Guadalupe County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the city of Seguin, Guadalupe County, the Seguin ISD, the Navarro ISD, Texas Lutheran University and the Seguin Fire/EMS Department.

Sounds of the season will also be provided that morning by members of the Seguin High School Band from 7 to 8 a.m. followed by the Navarro Band from 8 to 9 a.m.
The Blue Santa program accepts new gifts for children ages one day old to 12 years of age.

Small stocking stuffers are also encouraged for kids of all ages. In addition to toys and gifts, Blue Santa could also use new or used wrapping paper, scissors, tape and bows. Wrapping items can be either new or simply last year’s leftovers.

As for non-perishable food, items desired include beans, rice, pasta, cereal, peanut butter and soups. Other items such as clean egg cartons, recycled bags, laundry detergent and toiletries are also encouraged to be donated.

The KWED Holiday Food and Toy Drive will be held from 7 to 9 a.m. Friday, Dec. 3. Donations will also be collected in advance throughout the day in the radio station lobby.
