Get ready as Seguin goes Nuts

Festivities return this weekend for Pecan Fest & Heritage Days

(Seguin) – There are three more days to go until Seguin cracks open a weekend of fun at this year’s Pecan Fest & Heritage Days 2021. After scaling down much of last year’s event, the city is excited about again hosting festival events not only downtown but at other various locations including at the Big Red Barn.

Kyle Kramm, the director of the Seguin Main Street Program and Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, says the first thing folks will want to do is to be sure to check out seguingonuts.com for a complete listing of activities and times.

Kramm says first on that list is the return of a full scale Trade Days in downtown Seguin. Kramm says 100 vendors are slated to set up shop around downtown Seguin.

“Definitely come out for our Fall Trade Days, Market Days which will be Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and so we’ll have about 100 vendors set up around Central Park selling all sorts of goodies including some pecan products and we’ll also have live entertainment in the band stand, some kids’ activities and things like that in Central Park,” said Kramm.

Kramm says registration is also now underway on the Pecan Fest Facebook page for the annual Hats Off to Juan Seguin Pub Crawl on Saturday from 7:30 to 11 p.m.

“The Hats off to Juan Seguin Pub Crawl, it’s our annual birthday celebration for Juan Seguin. He turned 215 on Oct. 26 of this year and so we throw his birthday party every year during Pecan Fest. It’s changed over the years so now instead of it being a hat parade, it’s a hat pub crawl so everybody is invited to come out with a fun and silly hat and wear that as they go from pub to pub in downtown,” said Kramm.

Kramm says adding a taste of Halloween to the weekend celebration is the historic Palace Theater and its hosting of classic horror films both Friday and Saturday.
“The Palace Theater is hosting a film festival during Pecan Fest weekend and so it will include some Halloween movies but also short films made by local filmmakers and some from throughout the region. I think it’s going to be some outside in the parking lot of the Palace and most of the short films I believe will be inside,” said Kramm.

The free Classic Horrorfest will be held after dark around 7:30 p.m. Friday. Free classic Halloween horror films will be held inside. On Saturday at 7:30 p.m. those classic films will be shown both inside and outside The Palace Theatre in the Palace parking lot across the street (weather permitting). Those watching outside are asked to pull up and listen to the movie sound on their car radio tuned to FM 98.1.

Kramm says visitors and families are also encouraged to make their way to the Texas Agricultural Education & Heritage Center a.k.a. the Big Red Barn for not only this year’s Pecan Fest but its celebration of 100 years for the Texas Pecan Growers Association.

“The Big Red Barn is participating again this year with Pecan Fest. They’ll have a variety of vendors out there, their historic properties will be open for tours, they will have their turkey and dressing dinner as well so I think there’s a limited number of plates so you might want to get there early to get your turkey and dressing and to help with getting people from downtown to the Big Red Barn and vice versa, we will have a free shuttle that will take people from Central Park to the Big Red Barn so if you are more comfortable parking out at the Big Red Barn, you can park up there and take the shuttle to downtown,” said Kramm.

Events at the Big Red Barn will also be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The catered turkey meal being provided by The Lunch Box will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.In addition to the vendors, the Seguin Art League will have a wet paint sale featuring Seguin landmarks painted the day before.

Again, other events slated for this weekend can be found online at seguingonuts.com.

Seguin’s Central Park is located at 201 S. Austin St. The Big Red Barn is located at 390 Cordova Road.
