Guadalupe County Court-at-Law Judge seeks another term in office

(Seguin) — A Guadalupe County Court-at-Law Judge is announcing his intentions to seek re-election. Judge Bill Squires will be seeking the Republican nomination during the March Primary in 2022.

Squires says he wants another term in office so that he can continue the work he has started.

“I have dedicated myself to protecting what matters most to the people who live, work, and raise their families here. We have all been through a lot during the last 15 months, but we have not just survived, we have become stronger as a result. That is why I coined the motto ‘GuadCo Strong,'” said Squires. “I am proud of all that, with your support, I have accomplished during my first two and a half years in office and, I have never been prouder of Guadalupe County and the people who call it home, as we have worked together to take care of one another, and to preserve, protect and enhance our unique quality of life.”

Squires says his desire to keep his seat on the bench is only a continuation of his pledge to those he represents.

“When I was running for this office, I pledged to you that I would always protect the public’s safety and the public trust,” said Squires.

“As judge, I have done just that. During my first term in office, I have instituted programs and special courts that help ensure that justice is sure and swift and makes efficient use of precious
taxpayer dollars, including creating the Family Violence Impact Court – a special court setting where the voices of family violence victims, those accused, and other family members in crisis can be heard and where their personal protection and a swift just result is a top priority. This court has dramatically increased case resolutions in a swift and just manner.”

Squires says he also believes that he has helped to dramatically increase support for those with addiction problems. He says through the Guadalupe Drug Court Program, individuals and their families have received the help they need while also ensuring that public safety is protected and “all treatment alternatives are discussed.”

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic and the related shutdowns and disruption to daily life, Squires says his court has not only maintained its usual caseload, but it has also increased efficiency. He says over the course of his career, he has conducted hundreds of jury trials and thousands of bench trials, administering justice “fairly, thoughtfully, and knowledgeably.”

He says “swift, fair, and tough justice” is always his goal, and he never legislates from the bench. Instead, he says he strictly adheres to the rule of law and the principles enshrined in both the United States and Texas Constitutions.

“I was proud to announce that my court was the first in Guadalupe County to schedule, once again, live jury trials to ensure that my court is fully back to business and doing the people’s work. As an elected judge, I recognize and appreciate that your tax dollars pay for courthouse operations. By working to dramatically reduce case resolution times, and clearing a daunting backlog of cases, I am ensuring that your tax dollars are being used effectively and for their intended purpose,” said Squires.

If he wins the nomination in the spring of 2022, he would advance on to the general election in November of 2022. If he wins then, it would mark Squire’s second term in office. That second term would begin in January of 2023.
