Estella Salinas Castilla, 84, of Seguin, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at her daughter’s home in Dallas, TX after a brief battle with brain cancer. She was born March 27, 1929 in Guadalupe County. Estella was preceded in death by her husband of twenty-three years, Manuel C. Castilla, and by her mother, Margarita Salinas, both of Seguin. Estella is survived by her sister, Lucy Salazar and husband, Frank Salazar of New Braunfels, TX; two daughters, Yvette Castilla and her fiancé, Jeffrey V. Gish, of Dallas, TX and Brenda Castilla, of Irving, TX; three grandchildren, Andrew Sanchez, currently of Columbus, GA, and his wife Amanda Sanchez of San Antonio, TX, and Phillip Lance Castilla and his wife Brandi Christina Castilla of McKinney, TX, and Clayton Pierce Castilla of Irving, TX; and seven great-grandchildren Anthony Xaviour Sanchez, Amy Yvette Sanchez, and Angelie Rae Sanchez of San Antonio, TX and Kailey Marie Blackmon, Talan James Blackmon, Sky Quinn Blackmon, and Rush Barron Castilla of McKinney, TX. Estella worked side-by-side with her husband Manuel at the family run grocery/gas station in Seguin until Manuel’s death in 1984. Estella was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a positive influence on everyone and she met all challenges, including her recent illness, with a sense of humor, courage and with amazing calmness. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her. A Catholic Mass and memorial service will take place at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 25, 2013 at Holy Family Parish, 245 S. Hidalgo Ave., New Braunfels, TX 78130 and Estella’s ashes will be interred privately at San Geronimo Cemetery in Seguin. The family will receive friends following the memorial service. Carlos D. Miranda died recently at the age of 73. A memorial mass is set for 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 23 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Bertha Miranda; and children, Imelda Martinez, Juan Carlos Miranda, Cindy Fuentes, Irene Miranda, Carlos Miranda Jr., Debbie Valadez, Michael Medina and David Medina.

Fermin L. “Rano” Sauceda Jr., born August 28, 1949, died May 20, 2013. He was preceded in death by father Fermin Sauceda Sr.; mother Sofia Sauceda; brother Henry Sauceda; stepson Christian Cisneros. Maria Hernandez, of Seguin, died on Friday, May 10, 2013 at the age of 81. She was born on February 11, 1932 in Seguin, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel and Isabel Hernandez; husband, Polito Hernandez, Sr.; brothers, Manuel, Frank and Emilio Hernandez; sisters, Elida Palomo and Virginia Sauceda; and her companion of 30 years, Jesse Sanchez. Survivors include children, Delia Ramirez (Gil), Diane Hernandez (Miguel Garcia), Esther Hernandez (Juan Garcia), Polito Hernandez, Jr. (Mary), and Ralph Hernandez (Elizabeth); and sisters, Nora Castillo (Estacio), Yolanda Arriaga (Joe), Marina Teneyuque, Minnie Rangel (Abel), and Corina Villegas (Gilbert). She is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Seguin. Interment will follow at the Santo Tomas Cemetery. Pallbearers include Vidal Hernandez, Gil Ramirez, Sammy Hernandez, Ralph Hernandez, Jr., John Paul Hernandez and Randi Hernandez.
