What is your current occupation?
" Home health provider for my grandpa"
What does that involve?
"Daily routine of cooking, cleaning, taking him to doctor appointments, checking blood pressure, insulin and giving him his necessary medications"
What do you do off the clock "just for fun"?
" I love spending time with my son. We like to get up and take a cruise through the country back roads and listen to country music. Oh and after it rains, we like to ride around and save turtles from getting run over. It's kind of ’our thing.’ I love taking him fishing and to the beach. He loves that. I like to do a lot of the same things with him that my mom did with me when I was growing up. I love to play volleyball every week in the city league, watch movies rather than TV, read, listen to music and spend as much time with my family and friends."
When and where were you born?
" I was born Oct. 27,1984, right here in Seguin."
What's the most recent book you've read?
"I just finished reading ‘After You’ which is the book that follows ‘Me Before
You” by JoJo Moyes.’"
What is the best advice you've ever received?
"To LIVE, so I never have to wonder “what if?” Never settle, love hard, forgive easily and always keep smiling."
What is the biggest challenge you've ever faced?
"Without a doubt , it would have to be when I was 18. I was in a really bad car accident - I was riding passenger and hit a donkey that came out in front of my side and right through the windshield and hit me right in the face, causing major head trauma, fracturing my whole face, jaw and nose."
If you had to describe yourself in just two words, what would they be?
" I would have to say, adventurous and loving."
What inspires you?
"My son! Everything I do to better myself is because of him. I want to show him how to be a genuinely good and honest person, always strive for better and NEVER give up, no matter what. If his mama can do it, he can too and better."
If you could assemble a dinner party with any five guests (living or
dead), who would they be?
" I would have to say my daddy, George Strait, Ben Affleck, Guy Fieri and President Franklin D. Roosevelt."
What is your favorite TV show and why?
"Diners, Drive ins and Dives!!! Guy has the best job in the world. He gets to go all over the U.S and try different food from different states."
What are your roles in the community?
"I don't have as much time as I wish I did. But I do make time to help out as
much as I can. As a matter of a fact, I've been busy with a Hurricane Harvey Relief Drive that the owner of the Guadalupe GrillHouse, Ramiro Hernandez Jr. and I teamed up to put together for this Saturday, Sept. 9. It is a lot of team work putting this event together but we both felt the same about our fellow Texans that lost everything and there was no way we couldn't sit back and not do anything. So we had to help, one way or another! We're ready to contribute and hopefully this community is also. We shall see!"
What is your educational background?
"I graduated from Seguin High School in 2003 and went to and graduated from Academy for Massage Therapy. I took the Advanced Training course, getting my certification and license. "
What's your professional background/achievements/leadership roles?
"I have been in the insurance business for a little over four years. And I've always been in a management role due to my success of sales and taking the initiative to make an office succeed."
Share your family.
"I'm a single mother of my one and only son, Ayden. He's the best
thing that ever happened to me. My mama, Irene Marmolejo and I are
close and I don't know what I would do without her. She keeps me sane
and drives me crazy all at that same time. But I'd be lost without
her. My daddy, Emilio Hernandez Jr., passed away 4 1/2 years ago. My
big sis JoAnn Martinez passed away a little over 10 years ago. I miss
both of them, everyday and wish I could talk to them one more time. I
have a baby sister, Vanessa Hernandez. Well, she's 21 but will always
be my baby. I love my family and would be nothing without them."
What are the moments in your life and career that are your proudest
"I've accomplished a lot in the insurance field but my proudest moment was when I became a mother. Even if I wasn't ready for my son, the Lord knew that I needed him. I sometimes think I needed him more than he needed me. And if he grows up to be a hard working, good, honest, trustworthy and respectful man, then I know I did at least one thing right. "
What brought you to Seguin and why did you choose to live here?
"I was born and raised here in Seguin. It's my hometown. You can't
get the same feeling from a big city. I like the quietness and small
country town feel. It's home."
What do you believe are the strengths of this community?
"I believe that one of the best things about our town is that when
someone is in need of help whether it's near or far, we come together
to help. A great example is the Hurricane Harvey Relief Drive this
What initiatives or changes would you like to see in Seguin that
would further strengthen the community?
"I would like to see more things throughout this town for our kids to participate in that can teach them to lend a hand out of the goodness of their heart without expecting anything in return. Take a bad thing and turn into a good thing. Like help clean up this town. Help the less fortunate."
Do you have any family roots/history in the area?
"I know my family has been here forever and other than hearing stories from grandparents or uncles and aunts, I'm sad to say, I haven't tried to find out anything more."
What are your plans for the future, personally and/or professionally?
"My plans for the future are simple. I would like to have a family of my own to add to my son and I. But until the Lord blesses me with that, I'm going to enjoy my freedom and keep living my life by taking trips where and when I want. Showing my son that there's way more to life than just tablets, downloaded games and Youtube. I want to do what I want so when it is time to settle down, I can look back and know I had fun."
