(Columbus) – Navarro’s 2018 baseball season ended Friday night in the 4A area playoffs as Sweeny swept the Panthers by finals of 7-0 and 11-1 at Columbus High School.
Zach Moore scored Navarro’s only run of the series on a wild pitch in the fourth inning of the early game. Dakota Leopold’s double was the only hit the Panthers could muster against the Bulldogs’ starting pitcher Caden Homniok.
Moore went 3-3 in the second game. Joe Burch finished 1-3, but no other Panther recorded a hit. Sweeny’s Jackson Kiddy pitched four scoreless innings to earn the win.
Burch allowed six runs (five earned) on eight hits with five strikeouts and two walks in six innings. Evans Hendricks gave up a run on two hits, struck out two, and walked two in his relief appearance.
After finishing second in District 27-4A and advancing to the second round of the UIL playoffs, Navarro’s final season record is 16-13-1.
