(San Marcos) - Navarro softball opened the San Marcos tournament with a 3-1 loss to Lindale and a 6-0 setback to Midland-Greenwood on Thursday, followed with a third straight defeat to Fairfield on Saturday morning, and bounced back to beat Johnson City 10-2 and Del Rio 6-5 in the final two games.
Sydnie Booker notched both wins in the pitcher's circle on Saturday and appeared in all three games that day, striking out a combined 15 batters in 14 innings.
Ashlea Frederick hit an inside-the-park home run against Del Rio and finished the tournament 3-10 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Booker, Alyssa Hernandez, Amber Reneau, and Haleigh Ortiz drove in two runs apiece. Hernandez went a combined 6-11 with two triples, a double, and four runs scored in tournament play. Bailee Stanzione, Emily Hinkelmann, Jaylyn Rodriguez, Hailey Teasley, and Lindsey Gresham each recorded an RBI. Stanzione tripled twice, and Hinkelmann hit one as well.
Navarro's season record is 13-5-1. The Panthers open the District 27-4A schedule Friday with a 6 p.m. home game against Wimberley.
