Raycroft tosses 9th no-hitter of TLU career as Bulldogs sweep opening doubleheader
(Seguin) – Texas Lutheran senior right-hander Maitlin Raycroft tossed her ninth no-hitter in 24 career starts with the Bulldogs to lead TLU to a doubleheader sweep of Huston-Tillotson Saturday afternoon.

TLU won the first game 7-0 behind Raycroft's pitching dominance. Raycroft (1-0) struck out 16 and walked just one.

In game two, TLU received another shutout pitching performance - this one from junior Kassie Maddox. In the 5-0 win, Maddox allowed just four hits and struck out four. She did not walk a batter.

Raycroft hurled an NCAA Division III single-season record eight no-hitters a year ago and was an NFCA All-American and a national player of the year finalist. This year, she is a preseason All-American and once again on the NFCA Player of the Year watch list.

Maddox helped Raycroft's cause in the first game with a two-run home run in the Bulldogs' six-run fifth inning.

Maddox, starting at third base in the opener, went 3-for-4 with a run and three RBI.

Kyla Lockley also had three hits iin the first game. McKay Bloxham (Katy/Katy) doubled and had a pair of steals.

In game two, Bloxham and Kelly Jurden each had three steals, a run scored and an RBI. Cassie Roche had two hits and a run scored.

TLU has some time off the playing field before heading west to the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Tucson, Ariz. TLU will play six games in Tucson from March 2-4. Among the teams TLU will face are No. 1-ranked and defending national champion Virginia Wesleyan and No. 2-ranked and national runner-up St. John Fisher.

TLU baseball goes 3-0 in Rusty Greere-Jackie Moore Classic
(Grand Prairie) – Texas Lutheran baseball is off to a 5-0 start this season after notching three wins without a defeat last weekend at the Rusty Greer-Jackie Moore Classic in Grand Prairie.

The Bulldogs edged Willamette 4-3 on Friday, handled Hendrix 9-3 in Saturday’s first game, and erupted for a 14-5 victory over LeTourneau in Saturday’s finale at Airhogs Stadium.

Friday against Willamette, the Bulldogs scored off a throwing error at third base to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh. TLU's winning run came off a single through the right side from Matthew Lemon. Junior third baseman Thomas Varner scored the winning run.

Tyler Cauley kicked off scoring in the fourth inning with a solo home run to left field. Chad Curtis and Lemon each registered RBI singles.

Senior Dylan Drgac picked up the win with seven innings of work. He struck out five and walked one. Drgac improved to 2-0.

Redshirt junior Nathan Malinovsky earned his second save on the season with two innings of pitching relief. Malinovsky struck out one.

Varner had three hits and scored a run, and Cauley also collected two hits and scored a run. Lemon and Curtis both went 1-for-4 with an RBI.

In the early game Saturday against Hendrix, Drew Waller secured the pitching win with seven innings of action. Waller allowed just five hits and two unearned runs. He struck out four.

Riley Schaefer, Chad Curtis and Thomas Varner each had two hits, and Tyler Cauley drove in two with sacrifice flies in the fifth and seventh innings.

Spencer Brandt and Andrew Whitten also collected RBI in the 9-3 victory.
In the 14-5 win over LeTourneau, Clint Johns earned his first pitching win of the season with five innings of work. He finished with five hits and three runs allowed. He struck out six and did not walk a batter.

Landon Weatherly posted two innings of relief, allowing two hits and a run. Weatherly struck out two. Ethan Mueller tossed the final inning and struck out two.

The Bulldogs scored seven runs in the fourth, sending 11 batters to the plate in the inning. With the bases loaded, TLU scored off three walks and two singles. Matthew Lemon singled to right field and drove in two.

TLU returns to action tonight with a non-conference game against University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. at TLU's Katt-Isbel Field. TLU will have live video and stats on for the single, nine-inning game.
