(San Antonio) - Marion punctuated a 5-0 run to the District 13-3A-Division I championship Friday night with a dominant 42-14 road win over the Cole Cougars on the final night of the regular season in San Antonio.
The Bulldogs (8-2, 5-0) ride a six-game winning streak into a bi-district playoff matchup with Van Vleck, which is set for a 7:30 p.m. kick on Friday in Hallettsville.
Tayler Mills completed 22-33 passes for 293 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions, and Jacob Barry gashed the Cougars on the ground with 178 rushing yards and a score on 22 carries.
Nathan Newman, Jacob Wallace, and Josh Rodriguez caught the touchdown passes from Mills. Newman totaled 75 receiving yards on five catches, Wallace 60 yards on six receptions, and Jackson Allen 63 yards on four catches. Berry added three receptions for 41 yards, Kage Armstrong two for 29, and Rodriguz two for 25.
Mills and Armstrong each scored rushing touchdowns as well, and Newman ran for 38 yards on four carries. Marion finished with 555 yards of total offense - 293 passing and 262 rushing.
