(Seguin) – The Texas Lutheran women’s soccer team earned a pair of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference wins this past weekend, outlasting Centenary 3-1 on Friday and blanking Austin College 3-0 on Sunday at Gustafson Field.
TLU sophomore Katie Morton scored two goals - the eventual match-winner and then the match-clincher – against Centenary on Friday.
Morton gave TLU a 2-0 lead in the 21st minute with an assist from Leslie Flores.
After Centenary pulled within a goal, with a Pamela Fonseca shot in the 61st minute, Morton sealed the Bulldog win with a goal with six seconds to play in the match. Sara Gribbon assisted on the second Morton goal.
The goals for Morton were her second and third of the year.
Raquel Morris put TLU in front early with a goal in the seventh minute. Morris took a header from Jaclyn Smolik and beat the keeper to the left-center of the net.
TLU and Centenary each had 18 total shots. The Bulldogs had 10 shots on goal to Centenary's eight.
Bulldog keeper Stephanie Barrientos made seven saves in all 90 minutes in goal.
Forward Raquel Morris opened up scoring for Texas Lutheran in the third minute of play Sunday afternoon. Bailey Nimtz assisted on the goal.
Jaclyn Smolik scored both goals for TLU in the second half. First goal was scored at 60:25 off the corner kick from Nimtz, and the second at 77:27 with assist from Bryn Schleyer.
TLU posted 30 total shots to AC's 4, and registered 12 corner kicks for the match. Goal keeper Stephanie Barrientos made two saves from the only two shots on goal from the Kangaroos.
The Bulldogs are 5-6-1 overall, 5-2-1 in SCAC play. With 16 points, TLU is currently tied with Schreiner for second place in the conference standings.
TLU heads to San Antonio, Texas to face Trinity University in SCAC play Friday evening. Game time is set for 6 p.m. at McGinlay Field.
