(Seguin) – Kip Karschnik scored in the opening five minutes of the match and gave Southwestern the only goal it would need in a 1-0 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over Texas Lutheran, Tuesday night at TLU's Gustafson Field.
Karschnik to a long lead pass from Wil Mekelburg and knocked home a shot from 10 yards into the left corner of the TLU goal.
Southwestern then withstood a steady barrage of shots from TLU over the final 85 minutes of the match. TLU out-shot Southwestern 21-12 overall and had a 8-3 edge in shots on goal.
Southwestern keeper Ryan Benner turned away eight Bulldog shots on goal. TLU keeper Brendan Soto made two saves.
Alejandro Martinez and David Ching each had four shots for the Bulldogs. Martinez led the squad with two shots on goal.
TLU dropped to 1-3-1 overall and to 0-1 in the SCAC. Southwestern improved to 3-2 overall and to 1-0 in the SCAC. TLU hits the road this weekend for matches at Centenary (7 p.m. Friday) in Shreveport, La. and at Austin College (2 p.m. Sunday) in Sherman, Texas.
