TLU's Holmes, Lye make D3hooops.com All-Region team, Holmes receives NABC honor

(Seguin) - Texas Lutheran basketball players Kristen Lye and Sterling Holmes picked up D3hoops All-South Region honors after outstanding senior seasons for the Bulldogs' Women and Men's Basketball programs, respectively.

Holmes was named to the D3hoops All-South Region Second Team, and Lye was selected to the D3hoops All-South Region Third Team. In addition Holmes was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches All-Sout Region Second Team and was selected to play in the NABC Reese's®Division III College All-Star game.

Holmes is an All-Region selection for the second straight year. Lye received her first All-Region honor.

Holmes was a First Team All-Conference selection in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference for a second straight season. He was the 2016 SCAC Player of the Year and the 2016 SCAC Tournament Most Valuable Player.

Holmes led TLU to three straight SCAC Tournament Championships and to three consecutive NCAA Division III Tournament appearances. He was a part of two SCAC regular-season championships.

Holmes was named to three consecutive SCAC All-Tournament teams.

In 2016-17, Holmes ranked fifth in the SCAC in scoring, averaging 16.7 points per game, and he shot 45.1% from the field. Holmes also grabbed 5.6 rebounds per game while dishing out 2.9 assists per contest.

Lye, a four-year letterman and Academic All-American, finished her Bulldog career as the fourth all-time leading scorer and the fourth all-time leading rebounder. She was named to the All-SCAC First Team for a second consecutive season.

Lye holds a perfect 4.0 grade point average as a kinesiology major with specializations in exercise science and sports management.

Lye completed her TLU career in the SCAC Women's Basketball Championship final. Lye led TLU to a pair of SCAC regular-season championships, to an SCAC tournament championship, and to an appearance in the 2014 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship (first round).

Lye concluded her stand-out career with 1,255 points and 805 rebounds. She averaged career-highs for points (14.4) and rebounds (9.6) this season in leading TLU to a 21-6 overall record and to a 12-2 mark in the SCAC.

Three times Lye was named to the SCAC All-Tournament Team.

For her career, Lye averaged 11.84 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. She played in 106 career contests.

With her seven fellow seniors, Lye is part of TLU's senior class that won the most games in school history over four seasons. The Bulldogs went 75-33 (.694) overall and 45-11 in the SCAC (.804) in the past four seasons.
