TLU baseball hammers out 14 runs, 16 hits in non-conference victory

(Seguin) – Texas Lutheran Baseball scored 14 runs and hammered out 16 hits in a 14-1 non-conference win Wednesday night against Blackburn College (Ill.).

At TLU's Katt-Isbel Field, Matthew Lemon homered and then doubled twice. He finished the night 3-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI.

Thomas Varner and Rayce Gatlin each drove in four runs. Varner went 3-for-3 with a double, and Gatlin hit a bases-loaded triple and went 2-for-2.

Taylor Sammons also doubled and drove in a pair of runs.

With a key conference series against Trinity scheduled for this Friday and Saturday, TLU used one pitcher each inning. Clint Johns started and picked up the win to improve to 2-0. Ethan Mueller struck out the side in the ninth.

TLU improved to 11-7 overall. Blackburn dropped to 1-6.
