(Seguin) -- The taste of turkey and dressing will arrive a few weeks early thanks to the Seguin Mariachi Booster Club. The organization, which supports the Seguin ISD Mariachi program, will be hosting its second annual plate sale and silent auction in the Seguin High School Cafeteria.

Booster Club President Jennifer Martinez says the group invites everyone to join it for an afternoon of great food and live performances.

"We're going to have lots of mariachi music. We are also going to have performances from every grade level from within the Seguin ISD school district. So you will be hearing mariachi sounds from sixth grade all the way to 12th grade. Our mariachi directors recently went on a trip to Beijing with a group of Guzman Ballet Folklorico so they are actually donating a performance to come and perform on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and they will be performing as our varsity mariachi group performs," said Martinez.

In addition to the meal and entertainment, the event will also include a bake sale, silent auction and face painting.

Martinez says every dollar raised will go directly toward supporting the talented students who have committed to the program and who perform all year long.

"We have an estimate of around 144 students in the Seguin ISD Mariachi Program. So that has increased. They are actually going to be competing at a national competition, Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza come Nov. 17. We have two competing groups. One is from the junior high level and the other one is the varsity mariachi Matador from the high school level," said Martinez.

Each home style meal will include turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, corn, gravy, cranberry sauce, a roll and for those dining in, an iced tea. Both dine-in and to-go plates will be available. Plates are $8 each and can be purchased in advance from any mariachi booster club member. Plates can also be purchased at the door.
