|(Seguin) -- Parents are reminded to do their part this week as students take on the STAAR Test. The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness, a series of state-mandated standardized tests, will be administered to students beginning today.|
Sean Hoffmann, executive director of community relations for the Seguin ISD, says preparing your child for success begins at home.
"There's kind of a laundry list that we like to share as far as making sure your child gets to bed early, making sure they get up in time to get to school on time without feeling rushed or anxious, making sure they have a good breakfast -- if they wear glasses, make sure they bring those glasses to school and not forget them and appointments as well. That any doctor's appointment or appointment can be rescheduled or (avoided). Certainly, if possible, put those off to another date or time so that these students can be on campus and in their classrooms during that testing week," said Hoffmann.
Today's testing schedule includes STAAR math for grades 3, 4, 6 and 7. Tuesday's schedule includes English III at the high school and STAAR reading for grades 3, 4, 6 and 7. Wednesday has high school students taking Algebra II and then STAAR science for students in the 5th and 8th grades. Thursday wraps up the week with STAAR social studies for the 8th grade.
Students in the fifth and eighth grades must pass portions of the STAAR test in order to be promoted to the next grade level. Any student who does not pass will be given additional opportunities to retest over the summer.
