(Seguin) -- You voted for them on Facebook now it's time to witness them live during Friday's 8th Annual Hotshot's Reunion & Fish Fry scheduled at Max Starcke Park. The fish fry, which transports local families back to the original fish fry nights held at the Hotshot's Restaurant on Lake McQueeney, will welcome, Cinco Variety Band, the winner of the first ever Seguin Area Chamber of Commerce Fish Fry Battle of the Bands contest. The social media contest featured approximately six different bands looking for a chance to also entertain.
Georgia Hester, chamber membership and events coordinator, says they wanted to do a little something to add to the already popular event.

"So this year, we thought that it would be fun and a new way to get some attention for the event and let there be a People's Choice for the band that would be performing that evening and so Cinco Variety Band got the most likes and it was lots of shares and comments and people really seemed really excited to have them there," said Hester.

Band member Louis Garza says the group which consist of family and friends is pretty excited about being a part of this year's tradition.

"We hadn't really ever done anything like this before so we are all excited that we all got enough votes to do this. I guess we had quite a bit of friends," said
Garza.

Garza says the word "variety" found in their name pretty much sums up the idea behind the band.

"The name of the band is Cinco Variety Band and the way we got it was because there's five of us in the band and somebody said 'hey, there's cinco' so it kind of stuck with us. The type of music I guess it's a lot of like what we grew up with. We do a lot of 80s. We do country to Spanish rock to classic rock and four of us all kind of do some lead singing and back up vocals. So it's kind of a variety of everything," said Garza.

Also taking center stage this Friday will of course be the serving line for the original cod recipe remembered at Hotshot's. Even the sides were famous and included fries, cole slaw and the ever-so-famous marinated green beans.

The restaurant conveniently located on Lake McQueeney was destroyed by flooding in 1998 -- giving way for this now annual effort to preserve not only the great food but the community of friends that always gathered at the lakeside establishment.

The Hotshot's Reunion & Fish Fry is being hosted by the Seguin chamber and GVEC on Friday at the large Starcke Park East Pavilion. Serving will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. However, the drive-through service will only be available from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

Plates are $15 each and are encouraged to be purchased online at seguinchamber.com or at the Chamber, 116 N. Camp St. A Loaded Lawn Cart Raffle, featuring a wagon filled with alcoholic beverages, will also be hosted that evening. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased at the event or at the chamber office.
