Seguin PD urges caution against slider theft

(Seguin) -- The Seguin Police Department does not want you to  fall victim to "slider theft."  PD officials say they have had some recent activity on this type of theft which involves victims at gas pumps and unlocked car doors. "Sliders" are suspects who slide into a victim's car by going through a rolled down window or unlocked car, while the victim is pumping gas or inside the gas station. Once inside, they say items such as purses, electronics and money is taken. PD officials say all it takes is a few seconds.
The awareness effort coincides with the city's ongoing Lock IT Down Seguin campaign in which individuals are asked to lock their vehicles at all times. They say the burglary campaign isn't to be utilized just for night times. They say it applies all day, everyday.

Here are some tips that could help you and your family:

- Always remove your keys, roll up your window and lock the doors while you are pumping gas.

- Keep valuables out of plain view in your vehicle and lock the doors even if you are going inside for a moment.

- Pay attention to your surroundings and finally, don?t let cell phones distract you.

- Any suspicious activity should immediately be reported to the Seguin Police Department at 830-379-2123.
