(Seguin) -- One of the most popular night runs in the area returns this Saturday to Max Starcke Park. The Seguin Police Department is inviting runners and walkers to decorate themselves from head to toe with lights during the 9th Annual Seguin Police Moonlight Run 5K.

Officer Carlos Contreras says the route runs parallel to the Guadalupe River and provides participants with a unique scenic experience.

"What makes the Moonlight Run a little bit different is that it is going to be ran at night. You get to dress up with a bunch of lights or decorate yourself with a bunch of lights. We'll also give awards out for the best decorated individual adult and child," said Contreras.

Contreras says awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers in each age group. Awards will also be given to the runners/walkers having the most lights. Contreras says while registration is available on the day of the race, pre-registration is encouraged.

"We do have a pre-registration or an early registration. People -- if they still have not made a decision to register, they have the opportunity to register at the event, but it is preferred that you register beforehand so that way we can get a tally of all the numbers of whose going to be attending and all that good stuff. Runners will be able to receive a shirt that we have for them. It's going to be this bright lime green shirt, but we'll also be giving out awards for various winners in different categories, age categories and things of such. We also are offering a group pricing for groups of four. So say if there's businesses or maybe family members that want to go all in for a team, we have a group rate for the event too as well. We're asking anyone and everyone that is interested to come out and have some fun with us here at the Seguin Police Department and join us for Moonlight Run," said Contreras.

Pre-registration is $25 for ages 13 and over and $10 for those 12 years and under. An extra $5 will be added to each entry on the day of the race.

The event gets underway at 7:30 p.m. Saturday under the large pavilion at Max Starcke Park. Registration on the day of the race begins at 6 p.m. Moonlight Run registration is encouraged at www.athleteguild.com. Registration forms can also be found on the police department's website or picked up at the Seguin Police Department.

All proceeds raised go to help support the Annual Badges, Bikes and Tykes Picnic held each May.
