Tickets still available for annual Seguin Parrot Head Club Annual ''Summer Phling''

(McQueeney) -- Get ready to party in your flip-flops. The Seguin Parrot Head Club is inviting folks to "party with a purpose" during its annual Summer Phling.

The fundraiser party is scheduled from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5 at the McQueeney Lions Club.

Parrot Head Club Board Member Toni Winters, says the local group is part of a larger organization which works to support local communities.

"Parrot Heads are followers of the singer Jimmy Buffet and his lifestyle and ideals that he has of the easy -- living life on beaches, be happy, have a great time and when you are a Parrot Head, we are a (non-profit) club here in Seguin and when you are an official club, you must give back to the community. His theory is party with a purpose so the purpose is to give back to your community. So this is our way of having fun and giving back at the same time. Last year, we gave away $22,000 from raising money for one year. We have our happy hours every month at different places and anyone is always welcome to come and we have raffles and our happy hours. The members of the club bring items that other people might be interested in

and we have raffles and we raise money every month for that and then, we have our big fundraiser and we compile all the money raised from the year and give it all back to charity," said Winters.

Winters says the Phling will be the site of the most relaxing place in town with great food and live music.

"We will have heavy Hors d'oeuvres, drinks and lots of fun. We're having a silent auction, live auction, we've got some really great items for everyone. We're going to have Jerry Diaz & Hanna's Reef and they are a very fun, well known tropical band that plays the kind of music that we love and they play some rock-n-roll music and everyone is just upbeat and has a great time," said Winters.

Tickets are $45 pre-sale or $50 at the door. Pre-sale tickets can be purchased on Friday at Keller Williams Realty in Seguin, Alamo Title in New Braunfels or from any Seguin Parrot Head member. Tickets can also be purchased online at www.seguinphc.com. A limited amount of tickets will be sold at the door. The McQueeney Lions Club is located at 3211 W. FM 78 in McQueeney.
