(Seguin) -- Some of the nation's top thrill seekers will be in Seguin this week. Nearly 450 members of the American Coaster Enthusiasts (ACE) will be wrapping up their week-long pilgrimage of Coaster Con XL with a
final stop in Seguin.
This year, three parks in the San Antonio area will co-host numerous behind the scenes and coaster related activities. The convention which began on Sunday will wrap up on Thursday in Seguin with a trip on the Switchback at ZDT's Amusement Park.
Tim Baldwin, ACE communications director, says Switchback is the only wooden coaster of its kind -- in the world. He says what this "fun little park has done in a big way is really remarkable. We have members coming from all
over the world. I think the San Antonio area is really going to impress them."
ZDT's Park Owner, Sarah Donhauser, says they couldn't be more excited about showcasing the one of a kind amusement ride to folks who definitely know their roller coasters.
"It's super exciting. We are very excited to be co-hosting Coaster Con along with Fiesta Texas and Sea World. ACE is a really fantastic fun group of people. We love having them. We've had them for like several regional ACE events and
usually, there's about a hundred in attendance, but this one is going to be the big one, the first national ACE event that we host with about 450 people. So, we're super excited to have them," said Donhauser.
Donhauser says they'll be part of the action offering exclusive rides for members before the park opens.
"They're going to come earlier than our opening time. So we open at 11 but, they'll be here at 8:30 or so. From nine o'clock to 11 o'clock, they're going to have exclusive ride time on Switchback and the go-carts so just open for
them during that time. Then of course, the park opens at 11 so they'll be able to do all of the attractions while the park is open," said Donhauser.
Donhauser says since opening in October 2015, Switchback has helped Seguin and ZDT's become a popular destination in the coaster world.
"Well it's been really interesting. It's been great. We are a family park. This is a family roller coaster. You only have to be 42 inches to get on it but it also has attracted many coaster enthusiasts from all over the world. We actually just recently had a European coaster club here on Friday and on Sunday, we had a German coaster enthusiast club here. Everyday that we're open, we'll have multiple coaster enthusiasts come -- mainly just to ride Switchback. It is such a unique coaster. You can't ride it anywhere except for here in Seguin. This is the only place that this type of coaster (exist)," said Donhauser.
The other visits for the group include Six Flags Fiesta Texas and its Iron Rattler, Batman The Ride and Superman Krypton Coaster as well as SeaWorld San Antonio were members will get to experience the park's new Wave Breaker:
The Rescue Coaster.
Coaster enthusiasts from 35 states including some from Canada and Portugal will be among those taking on the coasters this week. American Coaster Enthusiasts is a non-profit, volunteer organization dedicated to the preservation, promotion, appreciation and safe enjoyment of roller coasters. It currently serves 5,000 members worldwide.
