(Seguin) -- The Seguin Silver Center is inviting you to bring your appetite to this year's 11th Annual Taste of Seguin. The food tasting and judging event will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, at the Seguin Coliseum.
The event is hosted by the Seguin Silver Center.
Executive Director Glenda Layton says a number of restaurants, caterers and commercial kitchens will be going head to head to be named the best in various categories.
"But what's fun and exciting about the Taste of Seguin is you truly get to sample different kitchen specialties, different kitchen favorites. It could be the chef, it could be the clientele, but they have the opportunity to enter two different categories of what they think makes them an outstanding commercial kitchen and that can be anything from a restaurant to a caterer to a nursing facility. Think about that, they feed their people three times a day to the hospital, which is going to be part of it. These different entities are all coming together to show off their really delicious food in sample sizes. There's going to be more than 16 different vendors there so that means you have over 30 different options there that you'll be able to taste all the way around and beside all the good food
and tasting, they get to choose -- the public gets to choose the one that they think is the best of the best. They get judged by judges and they get judged by the public," said Layton.
Layton says a special category will also be listed on this year's menu.
"Well this year, we have a new category. Instead of having the chips and salsa under appetizers, we're giving them their own section. So they will be absolutely highlighted. I mean, what are we? This is Texas. We love our chips and
salsa so we have several entrants that are going to be just specializing in that as well. So that's new. We did put in a new category called Sides, but everybody wanted to go with the traditional. So sides were not entered. So
we're going to be pulling that one and we'll be going with the appetizers, the chips and salsa as a separate category, entrees, soup, salad and then obviously, desserts which is a big category everybody loves," said Layton.
Layton says in addition to great food, ticket holders will get to experience much, much more at this year's Taste.
"Beyond that, there's always a wonderful bank here in town that is going to be sponsoring our adult beverages which you know are kind of nice to have when you're out tasting some great food as well. Then, we will also have
live music. So we have Vernon & Friends playing but the 2004 Country Christian Music Entertainer of the Year, Mr. Clifton Jansky will be out playing music for everyone too. So it's a multi ‘folkal’ event. We're going to get their senses with their food. We're going to have a lot of fun, visually, with decorations of booths, but then we're going to hit them with a good old country music. So there's a lot of reasons to be there this time," said Layton.
Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door. Advance tickets are available at the Silver Center or at the Seguin Area Chamber of Commerce office.
