(Seguin) -- Seguin is gearing up for what hopefully will be the first trips back home for the Matador Band.

Weather permitting, the first few groups are expected to catch flights out on Thursday. Of course, SHS Band Booster members have steadily been working to acquire flights for the large group which had to extend its stay in New York due to a snowstorm earlier this week. The band is returning from its once-in-a-lifetime performance at Carnegie Hall.
During its daily check-in with Seguin Radio KWED, Junior Nathaniel McHenry shared his goal of not making the trip to Carnegie a "once in a lifetime" opportunity.
"It’s been a great experience – a real different atmosphere. The performance was a whole lot of fun. I personally made it a goal to go back to Carnegie Hall to either play or conduct," said McHenry.
Today has been described as sunny and a fun filled day with a Snowman contest that was extended to folks back home via Facebook. It is also expected to be capped off with a talent show later today. The objective of the show will be to pick up a different instrument and give it a try.
Although the band had to extend its trip by two or three days, there was nothing unfortunate about the experience. That's at least according to Freshman Ryan Hernandez who not only enjoyed the many inches of snow but also the extra time to unwind following the concert Monday night. He says in fact, the extra days are proving beneficial for not only the students but the many adults who have been on the go since the band's arrival on Friday.
"It was my first time ever playing in snow. When I got up, I thought it was personally very amusing. We built a snowman and had a competition there. We're hanging out right now watching a movie and having a great time even with the delay and stuff -- it's still a great time," said Hernandez.
Again, the band is looking to have some of the students catch flights back home tomorrow. Others will have to wait until Friday to return.
