(McQueeney) --  Get ready to party in your flip-flops.The Seguin Parrot Head Club is inviting folks to "party with a purpose" during its annual Summer Phling. The fundraiser party is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday at the McQueeney Lions Club.
Club Board Member Toni Winters, says the local group is part of a larger organization which works to support local communities.
"We are 501(c)3. We're totally non-profit. A Parrot Head is a follower of Jimmy Buffet and his lifestyle -- an ideal tropical lifestyle about the beach and having fun. We also "party with a purpose." (That's) our motto. That's why we have this big fundraiser to raise money to give back to the community. That's what Parrot Head is about, having fun and giving back," said Winters.
Winters says a tropical island theme always makes raising money easier.
"Everyone is welcome to come. The tickets are $40 a person. That gets you food and drinks and fun. We're having a great band, Jerry Diaz and Hanna's Reef. It's a great band and they play all kinds of music and we always have a great time. We have an awesome silent auction going and also live auction. We even have a golf cart that we're going to raffle off. If anybody's interested in a golf cart, I believe the tickets are $25 a piece. I think we're only selling 52 tickets for that. We're going to have all kinds of fun items," said Winters.
Winters says each year, the group manages to raise more and more money for local charities.
"We donated $22,000 to charity last year. That's what we made in one night from the generosity of the people that came to our thing last year. We donated $22,000 to the Seguin and New Braunfels community. Relay for Life, the humane society, hospice, Seguin Youth Services, advocacy center, Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF), 100 Club, Christian Cupboard, Comal County Violence Center, Pack the Bus, CASA, Wounded Warriors and many others," said Winters.
Tickets are $40 each . Tickets can be purchased on Friday at Alamo Title in Seguin. They are also available by contacting Winters directly at 830-305-4891.  A limited amount of tickets will be sold at the door.
