Fun musical opens this weekend at Texas Theatre; The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee set to delight audiences

(Seguin) -- A live musical production, that opens this weekend at the Stephen and Mary Birch Texas Theatre, will not only tickle your funny bone and delight your ears, but might also put your spelling skills to the test. A local production of the popular play "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday this weekend and next weekend at the historic theater in downtown Seguin.

Patrick King is helping direct the show, and he's also part of the cast. King says many of his theater arts friends from this area have wanted for a long time to put on this fun show. He says they all happen to be here this summer, and things just kind of came together for the show.

Fathers, daughters prepare for Cinderella Ball

(Seguin) -- A special night for fathers and daughters happens Friday night in the Coliseum The Seguin Police Department DARE Program is once again presenting its annual Cinderella Ball. DARE Officer Hope Vasquez says time is running out for those kings out there that want to treat their princesses to a special night.

Original SHS Clock Tower towers down for good; Community says good-bye to old SHS clock tower

(Seguin) -- One of the last remaining sentimental pieces of the old Seguin High School campus was officially brought down Wednesday. The old clock tower located at the entrance of what was the old campus was demolished as part of the construction of an entirely new campus next door.

Sean Hoffmann, the public information officer for the Seguin ISD, says seeing construction crews take down the clock tower was, no doubt, a bittersweet moment for most of the community.

Let the collecting, trading begin; Seguin PD handing out its ''Cop Cards'' to local children

(Seguin) -- Watch out Topps and Upper Deck, there's a new trading card hitting the streets. In hopes of adopting a new approach to engaging kids while out in the community, the Seguin Police Department has officially launched its "Cop Cards."

Carlos Contreras, public information and crime prevention officer, says officers have begun carrying their own personal trading card. He says it's like a baseball card but for police.

Seguin Little League softball teams capture zone, district banners

Seguin Little League produced two softball championships banners last week during the Special division zone and district All-Star tournaments. The Seguin nine-year old All-Stars (top photo) won the West Zone and District 31 championships, while the Seguin eight-year old All-Stars (bottom photo) captured the West Zone title before falling to Hallettsville in the district championship game. Ricky Fernandez to lead Seguin girls basketball program

(Seguin) – Seguin ISD has hired Ricky Fernandez as the new head girls basketball coach at Seguin High School.
